Experience the Settlement

Journey into the past at the Koreshan Settlement, where history comes alive among houses and buildings dating back to the late 1800s. As you explore the preserved grounds, you’ll uncover the fascinating story of the Koreshan Unity, a visionary community that lived, worked and thrived here for decades.

Guided Tours Year-Round

Join our knowledgeable volunteer and ranger staff for immersive tours that reveal what daily life was like for the Koreshans. Learn about their routines, their innovative ideas and the unique belief system that shaped their community. For tour schedules or tickets, visit the Friends of Koreshan State Park website.

Industrial Innovation

Step into the industrial area to see the impressive 1929 Fairbanks-Morse Engine and the original machine shop. The Koreshans installed and provided power not only for their settlement but also for neighbors in the surrounding area—a remarkable achievement for the time.

Walk The Gardens and Trails

Stroll through the serene bamboo trails cultivated by the Koreshans. Though bamboo is not native to Florida, it has been preserved here as part of the area’s unique history. The gardens reflect a blend of Victorian elegance and Arts and Crafts design, offering a glimpse into how the Koreshans adapted through eras of prosperity and decline—from the thriving industrial age to the hardships of the Great Depression.

Discover Their Story

From their bold vision to their eventual dissolution, the Koreshan story is one of innovation, community, and resilience. A visit to Koreshan State Park is more than a walk through history—it’s a fun-filled experience that captures a significant chapter of Southwest Florida’s past.

The Koreshan Unity Gardens and Trails

The gardens and trails of Koreshan State Park offer a living glimpse into the legacy of a unique community from the past. Winding through a rich tapestry of native, exotic, and even some invasive plant species, visitors will discover fascinating botanical varieties from around the globe. These historic gardens are deeply rooted in a time of exploration and experimentation, with ties to renowned figures like Henry Nehrling—celebrated naturalist, botanist, and ornithologist—as well as innovators Henry Ford and Thomas Edison. They stand as a testament to an era when people were still uncovering the many uses of plants and trees for food, medicine, construction, and beauty.
