Yulee Sugar Mill Ruins Historic State Park

Heather Nagy has been a fan of Florida State Parks since she was a child, and she even was married at Hillsborough River State Park in 1977. A year later, she and husband Dave visited Yulee Sugar Mill Ruins Historic State Park for the first time as part of a weeklong road trip to see every extant sugar mill in the state. She has returned countless times since then, and now shares the beauty and history of this site through social media.

A dedicated long-distance runner, Heather also facilitates social media for the Withlacoochee State Trail, as well as Crystal River Archaeological State Park and Crystal River Preserve State Park

“Photographing these special places forces me to slow down and really appreciate the beauty at every level, from sweeping landscapes down to the tiniest mushroom, leaf or flower,” she says. “I really hope my photographs and words will help share the history - both natural and human - of these extraordinary places. I don’t think there’s a better volunteer job anywhere!”
