Staff Spotlight, Lifesaver Award
Brandie Dziegiel, Scott Armstrong, Connor Grove and Paige Kirkland are recipients of the 2022 Lifesaver Award. The Lifesaver Award is given to an employee or volunteer whose actions save the life of another person.
On July 24, 2022, a call came on the park’s radio from a staff member at Guest Services, the park’s concessionaire. A 14-year-old female visitor was unconscious on the beach and 911 was needed. Park Services Specialist Brandie Dziegiel, Park Ranger Scott Armstrong, and Guest Services employees Connor Grove and Paige Kirkland responded to the incident.
Bystanders had just pulled the visitor from the Gulf of Mexico. She was unconscious and not breathing. The team immediately began to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation, which they continued until emergency services arrived and took over.
Because of the fast response and efforts of staff, the visitor regained consciousness and started breathing again before being transported to the hospital.
