Brian Law, Environmental Specialist

Brian grew up in Clearwater, Florida. While his family spent plenty of time on the beach, they also explored parks located in the interior of the state. Some of the parks that he remembers going to are Myakka River River State Park in Sarasota and Mike Roess Gold Head Branch State Park in Keystone Heights. Brian attended the University of Central Florida in Orlando and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology.

After graduation, Brian joined AmeriCorps, completing a term with the Montana Conservation Corps. Brian was on a trail crew in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness Area, southwest of Missoula. When that term ended, he moved back to Florida and became a Florida Conservation Corps A.N.T. member at St. Sebastian River Preserve State Park in Fellsmere.

It was at St. Sebastian River that Brian was trained in prescribed fire and he became hooked. From there, he sought out fire-specific jobs and joined the PINE team in Gainesville in 2018.

As the environmental specialist at Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park, Brian leads the prairie team with prescribed fire, non-native plant control, habitat restoration, and resource inventories and management. He is excited to be a part of the prairie family and when he has free time, you might find him playing disc golf or in his shop, woodworking. Check out the calendar and go on one of Brian’s guided hikes — you won’t be disappointed!
