Experiences
Anglers may catch saltwater and freshwater fish in designated areas.
- All fishing within the park must conform to regulations concerning size, number, method of capture and season. A fishing license may be required. More information is available at the Florida Wildlife Commission’s Fishing in Florida.
Explore the park in a new and challenging way. Experienced Geocachers have requested permission to hide caches containing trinkets, treasures or information in various places around the park. Please check the Geocaching website for the most up-to-date information and clues to locate these caches.
Crystal River Archaeological State Park offers a self-guided hike along paved pathways. Learn about the ancient ceremonial site and bring your camera for possible bird sightings! Study this map to learn more about hiking trails at the park.
The beautiful Crystal River can be your sparkling backdrop for a quiet, serene ceremony. There is an area with benches near the river and a majestic temple mound in view.
For a more intimate ceremony, climb the stairs to the top of the temple mound where a platform allows for a beautiful view of the Crystal River. The area close to the river can accommodate up to 80 guests. The temple mound platform has seating for 10, but has enough standing room for 20.

The area within the park has been largely altered by humans. Clearings associated with the mound complex are adjacent to a dense tree line that works well for bird-watching. The site is listed as a birding area in the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail. It is one of four ADA accessible birding sites in Citrus County.
Amenities
Crystal River Archaeological State Park is committed to providing a variety of amenities accessible to all of our visitors.
These amenities include:
- Museum.
- Video Room inside the museum.
- Picnic facilities with tables and grills, with a reasonable accommodation.
Service animals are welcome in all areas of Florida State Parks.
The primary purpose of this site is to preserve and interpret the mound structures, burial areas and the lifeways of the coastal dwellers who used the area in ancient times. The visitor center/museum displays artifacts related to the site and provides a few comparisons with what was occurring in other parts of the world during similar time periods.
- The museum is open Thursday through Monday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome at Crystal River Archaeological State Park. They must be kept on a 6-foot leash at all times and cannot be left unattended for more than a half-hour.
