The Santos area of the Cross Florida Greenway is the epicenter of the extensive and diverse single-track trails that were designated as a Bronze Ride Center by the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) for its trail offerings to riders of all abilities and levels.

With the 63.4 miles of trails and features available overall at this location as well as the Vortex Freeride area, Santos is consistently ranked as one of the top off-road cycling destinations in the Southeast United States and the nation.

Santos is maintained and developed through a partnership with the Ocala Mountain Bike Association (OMBA). 

This is also the current eastern terminus for the paved multi-use trail running 16 miles westward to State Road 200. Opened in early 2018, this trail has become one of the premier paved trails in Florida and is best known for its diverse scenery, wildlife viewing opportunities, rolling terrain and great flow.

  • Please observe posted speed limits and safety signage.
  • Helmets are recommended for all cyclists on our trails. Florida law requires helmets for cyclists age 16 and under.

The 25-site Santos Campground provides power and water hookups for RVs, trailers and tent campers. There is a bathhouse and dump station available as well.

Hiking

The Florida National Scenic Trail main through trail traverses through the Santos trailhead adjacent to the campground and connects westward across the greenway to Dunnellon and beyond.

From Santos east it ultimately connects to the FNST and the Ocala National Forest approximately 12 miles northeast of Santos.

The Florida Trail Association produces detailed hiking maps by segment.

Horseback Riding

The Santos area has a day-use equestrian staging area located just west of U.S. 441 adjacent to the Santos Campground. This trailhead provides access to the greenway equine trails that run westward to the Pruitt Trailhead near Dunnellon.

  • 79.4 miles of equestrian trails on the greenway can be ridden from Santos westward.

Picnicking is available in the pavilions provided, tables located in the area or in open grassy areas as desired.

From Santos east it ultimately connects to the FNST and the Ocala National Forest approximately 12 miles northeast of Santos.

The 16-mile paved trail that runs from Santos to State Road 200 is also available for walking and provides an ADA accessible surface to accommodate visitors of all abilities.

Wildlife Viewing

There is ample opportunity for wildlife viewing while out on the trails in the Santos area of the Cross Florida Greenway. This upland mixed hardwood area has many native species to Florida available to observe and enjoy.

The Marjorie Harr Carr Cross Florida Greenway is committed to providing a variety of amenities accessible to visitors. These amenities include:

  • Accessible restroom.
  • Accessible paved trail.
  • Accessible picnic pavilions.
  • Accessible parking.
  • Accessible campsites.
  • Accessible bathhouse.

Service animals are welcome in all areas of the greenway.

  • 79.4 miles of equestrian trails on the greenway can be ridden from Santos westward.

Extensive parking is available at the Santos trailhead with paved parking and grass overflow available in the mountain bike day-use area and a fenced grassy staging area for equestrians.

Pets
Pets

Pets are welcome at Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway. All pets must be on a hand-held, 6-foot leash at all times. Pets may not be left unattended.

  • Pet owners must pick up after their pets and properly dispose of all pet droppings in trash receptacles.
  • Service animals are allowed in all areas of the park.

There are several small and one large pavilion available in the Santos day-use trailhead. There are also two picnic pavilions in the Santos campground for registered campers. Pavilions are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

There are restrooms available for day-use guests. Registered campers have access to a bathhouse in the Santos Campground.

Potable drinking water is available at several locations in the Santos day-use area and within the Santos Campground.
