Sunday Morning Guided Nature Walk

A view of a group of visitors going on a nature walk.

Join us for a FREE guided walk through the Royal Palm Hammock!

Walks are offered Sunday mornings at 11 a.m., November through April.

At just under a mile long, the  walk loops you through the hammock and mangroves, ending at the platform which overlooks the salt-marsh. Observe local flora and fauna as your park ranger naturalist guides you on this informative and exciting exploration. Walk among the towering Royal Palms and notice how abundant aerial plants are in this area. For the bird-watching enthusiast, bring your binoculars to catch a glimpse of red-shouldered hawks, cardinals, red-bellied woodpeckers and a variety of other winged creatures. This trail is one of the few surviving Royal Palm forests in Florida. A true testament to the resilience of nature, learn how this trail and the surrounding area resurrects itself after hurricanes and damaging storms. This trail is an amazing opportunity to come discover ... the Real Florida!

The guided walk begins at the trail-head, located in the boat basin. The path is mostly along the boardwalk, but please wear appropriate shoes for the sections that are gravel and dirt. Additionally, do not forget to bring water, bug spray and sun protection gear.
