Staff Spotlight, Diana Stinson
Diana Stinson is the recipient of the 2022 District 4 Joe Kenner Award for Interpreter of the Year. The Interpreter of the Year Award is given to an employee who delivers outstanding interpretive programming.
A visit to Oscar Scherer State Park should always be fun. Diana Stinson is the person ensuring that each park visitor has an opportunity to learn about the natural environment while having fun.
As the Park Services Specialist at Oscar Scherer State Park, Diana is tasked with coordinating interpretive programs and organizing events in the park. For the last two years, Diana has scheduled and coordinated seven nature programs while also providing numerous fun activities for park guests.
Diana also provides interpretation through special events such as concerts, First Day Hikes and Critter Crafts for Kids. Most notably Diana coordinated the Annual Haunted Trails Event. The event typically features spooky walking trails and a haunted house. More than 3,000 people attended the event, which raised more than $4,300 for the Friends of Oscar Scherer.
If you have plans to visit the park, always check the Events calendar to see when ranger programs are offered. You can expect topics to include eagle viewing, critter crafts for children, tram tours, guided night paddles, guided walks, ranger choice programs and guided canoe paddles.
