Katie Moses, Park Manager

An exciting new era has begun at Lovers Key State Park with several park improvement projects happening in 2020! The biggest project (and most exciting) is the construction of a Welcome and Discovery Center that will feature an exhibit hall, community room, restrooms, picnic area and outdoor discovery areas.

Another fantastic park improvement is the renovation of our restrooms located in parking lot #1 adjacent to the gift shop. The renovations will include new bathroom fixtures and conversion of compost toilets to flush toilets. The compost toilets we have used since the park opened have been great; however, they can’t keep up with the increased visitation the park has experienced over the years. These two projects also will bring new water and sewer lines into the park, updating the park’s infrastructure. Please stay tuned to park alerts and notices as access to certain areas may be impacted or closed during certain phases of these projects.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to discover more about our beautiful state park, why not join us for one of our incredible nature programs? We have a fantastic team of rangers and volunteers who offer a wide variety of nature programs and park tours.

In the mood for a little more of an adventure? Book a kayak or paddleboard tour through the park’s pristine waterways with our park’s concessionaire Lovers Key Adventures tour guides, or rent a kayak, paddleboard or bike to explore the park! While you are on your adventure, keep an eye out for an abundance of native wildlife including West Indian manatees, gopher tortoises, roseate spoonbills and bottle-nosed dolphins, to mention just a few.

I hope to see you at the park soon!
