Volunteer Spotlight, Skip Voss

Alafia River State Park

Skip was born in Massachusetts, to the south of Boston. He was a truck driver for over 29 years, and he transported some unique items during this time, including an antenna for the space station, and a captured submarine.

Skip has been a volunteer with different parks for over four years. He began his volunteering adventure in Georgia at Cloudland Canyon State Park. From there, he began volunteering with the Florida Park Service at Little Manatee River State Park, where he fulfilled the duties of campground host and helped with maintenance.

The reason Skip decided to volunteer is because he likes to be of service to others. Skip has had many adventures while working at state parks; he even had the chance to help with recovery efforts after Hurricane Michael. His favorite aspect of being a volunteer is that he feels the satisfaction of helping others and making them happy. He loves to encourage others to volunteer at state parks by being a friendly and approachable campground host.

Alafia River State Park is lucky to have a wonderful volunteer like Skip!
