Econfina River State Park

Resident volunteers Nick and Darlene Divirgilio have found their second home at Econfina River State Park. Nick and Darlene spend most of their time living in northern Maine, but like many others, come to volunteer in Florida State Parks to escape the harsh winters and enjoy sunny Florida. Nick retired from New York State Park Police and Darlene retired from a career as a registered nurse. Now the pair enjoy traveling all over the United States, but mostly they enjoy being part of a team in remote Florida State Parks like Econfina River and Bald Point State Parks.

Nick and Darlene contribute their time and talents by keeping grounds and facilities clean and well maintained, greeting visitors, performing trail maintenance, and opening and closing the park. With their people skills, Nick and Darlene have become part of the small community at Econfina River, in ways that bring people together for a common interest of keeping the park safe and inviting. The couple say that their favorite part of volunteering is interacting with the many interesting people they get to meet daily and listening to their wonderful stories.

Nick and Darlene invite you come and enjoy all that Econfina River State Park has to offer!
