Larry Stake

Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park

Larry Stake, along with his wife Donna and beagle Dixie, has been volunteering at Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park for over 10 years. Born and raised in North Florida, Larry believes in volunteering because he has always loved the state parks. Between Stephen Foster and Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park, where he also works, Larry has almost 5,000 volunteer hours.

Larry is an extremely skilled tradesman - efficient, hardworking and able to do just about anything. His skills as a master carpenter really come in handy at Stephen Foster. Larry built 10 trash and recycling bins for the park, two pump houses and the ranger station wood shed, and yet he still somehow finds time to display his custom-built hot rods at the Antiques, Arts and Collectibles Day event. He was essential to the total renovation of the park’s Nelly Bly’s Kitchen facility as well as several other projects.

Larry enjoys volunteering at Stephen Foster for the opportunities he gets to maintain and fix things, as well as the people he meets, and has been happy to make lifelong friends at Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park.
