A Florida native through and through, Tommy Barry was born in Old Town, Florida. Having always had a love for the outdoors and finding serenity in wild places, a career in the Florida Park Service was a natural next step. He cites a desire for adventure and a commitment to preserving, restoring and interpreting our state’s resources as his main reasons for joining. Since then, he’s worked his way up to becoming the Park Services Specialist at Waccasassa Bay Preserve State Park.
When it comes to his on-the-job duties, Tommy does a little bit of everything. In fact, one of his favorite parts of his job is all of the different equipment trainings he receives, as it allows him perform a bunch of different jobs, all requiring unique equipment. Some of his favorite days on the job are when he can jump on an airboat or assist with a prescribed fire. He also loves to participate in Operation Outdoor Freedom’s hog hunts at the park, which helps wounded veterans participate in outdoor activities.
