Park Ranger, Ronald Watkins
Ron moved to Florida in 2013 to be closer to his daughter. At the time, she was working for the Florida Park Service and started to introduce her dad to all that Florida State Parks had to offer. After learning more, particularly about the diversity of tasks and duties that staff are able to work on daily, Ron became interested in pursuing a second career with the Florida Park Service.
Ron is an invaluable source of mechanical knowledge and has the ability solve complex issues quickly. He spends his workday helping maintain not only the park, but the park’s equipment and vehicles as well. He assists with everything from major tasks such as erosion control to minor repairs of small engines. His love of cycling and bikes has also led him to lead interpretive programs not only at Ravine Gardens, but also on the Palatka to St. Augustine State Trail.
Each day is different and that is just the way Ron likes it. “Ravine Gardens usually has a new experience for me every day and I look forward to each challenge.”
