Fishing
Fishing

If you like to fish, this is one of the hottest places where you can fish from land! At certain times of the year, you may see fish migrating along the coast. You can catch various species including bluefish, snook, red/black drums, pompano, permit and whiting.

  • All fishing within the park must conform to regulations concerning size, number, method of capture and season. A fishing license may be required. More information is available at the Florida Wildlife Commission’s Fishing in Florida.
Geo-Seeking
Geo-Seeking

Explore the park in a new and challenging way. Experienced Geocachers have requested permission to hide caches containing trinkets, treasures or information in various places around the park. Please check the Geocaching website for the most up-to-date information and clues to locate these caches.

You can launch your canoe/kayak from the beach side. However, you must carry it 30 to 40 yards to the water. All water activities are conducted at your own risk. There are no lifeguards on duty.

Snorkeling
Snorkeling

Snorkeling is a popular recreational activity, weather permitting. Snorkelers can enjoy the beautiful tropical sea life that awaits them below. Most of the year, our waters are so clear you just might think you’re in the Bahamas!

Caution should be exercised when entering the ocean in the vicinity of the park. Numerous underwater obstacles, made of concrete and steel, were deposited offshore by the U.S. Navy during World War II for training purposes. While some of these obstacles have been removed, those that remain can cause serious harm to the unsuspecting swimmer, snorkeler or surfer.

  • Swim at your own risk. No lifeguards are on duty.
  • Any person using a surfboard, paddleboard, surfing kayak or other similar hard, rigid equipment in the Atlantic Ocean within park boundaries must have such equipment securely tethered to the person utilizing such equipment. The leash must be no longer than 12 feet.

Staying hydrated on your outdoor adventures is important. Just bring a refillable water bottle to replenish your drinking water at the park. This will reduce the use of single-use plastics in landfills and reduce the litter sometimes found along trails, at campsites, on beaches and in Florida’s waterways.

  • At Avalon State Park, you’ll find a refillable water bottle station at the bathhouse.
