Rick and Nancy Morgan
Rick and Nancy ensure that everyone can enjoy the beauty and cleanliness of the park.
Rick and Nancy Morgan have always had the volunteering spirit. Even prior to retirement, they dedicated themselves to giving back to the community. Commitment to the Florida State Parks comes easy for this couple who has shared 53 wonderful years of marriage. Nancy was born and raised in California and met Rick in his home state of Michigan. Their travels to Florida brought them closer to their family serving in the Air Force. Upon realizing that warm weather, family, and frequent vacations could be their daily lives, they traded snow covered roads for sandy beaches and icy blizzards for rainy hurricanes and settled in Navarre Fl where they owned a home for 16 years.
Rick and Nancy discovered they could combine their love for camping with their passion for volunteerism when they heard from our camp host that Blackwater River had a need for volunteers. They began volunteering 2020 covering camp host and day use positions in the fall time. To them, it feels like coming home. When they aren’t cleaning and maintaining the park or campground, they are out enjoying the diversity of plants, the river, wildlife, and socializing with the visitors they encounter. Each day they are inspired by the many compliments from visitors praising the campsites, restrooms, and trails combined with the family atmosphere of the staff and other volunteers. Their goals are to ensure that everyone can enjoy the beauty and cleanliness of the park. For Rick and Nancy, volunteering in the outdoors has provided the added benefit of improved health, being home for the holidays, memorable volunteer appreciation lunches, and many friends made along the way.
