Volunteer Mike Emmerich
2021 Adult Volunteer of the Year Award for Protection
Mike Emmerich has accumulated over 5,000 service hours as a volunteer.
He is essential to Werner-Boyce Salt Spring State Park and is a true team player. He is ready to help with any project that needs to be accomplished and has yet to meet a challenge he can’t overcome.
Mike is well-versed in the upkeep of the fire equipment and regularly starts and runs the light medium tactical vehicle, keeping the park fire-ready.
Mike has extensive knowledge of the Florida Park Service from his time as an employee. His expertise and experience are invaluable to Werner-Boyce state park staff and visitors.
In 2021, both the park manager and park services specialist were promoted to different parks, leaving one ranger to temporarily cover all shifts.
Mike immediately stepped up, coming to the park multiple days a week to help the ranger with opening the park, ensuring visitor safety and keeping the park presentable, all while Mike stayed on top of his regular tasks.
Mike’s hard work and helpful attitude make him more than deserving of this honor.
