Volunteer Spotlight, Don Colucci

Don Colucci

Caladesi Island State Park

Don retired in 2016 after 43 years working at the Regional Transit Bus Company in Rochester, New York. He moved to Florida and after a few months of hanging around the condo pool and the beach at Honeymoon Island, he started to get bored. Since he loved visiting Honeymoon Island State Park, he decided to volunteer there.

A few months later, he decided to volunteer at Caladesi Island, and he has been there ever since. Don enjoys working with the rangers and thinks of Caladesi as his second home. You will find him mentoring the staff while performing various carpentry, plumbing and mechanical projects in the park.

In his free time, when he’s not volunteering, Don likes to relax by riding his bike and fishing with his girlfriend.

Don volunteers four or five days a week and is a true asset to Caladesi Island State Park. If you enjoy ...the Real Florida, he encourages you to get out and volunteer at a Florida State Park near you.
