Sophia Howard

Youth Volunteer of the Year Award for Maintenance

Sophia Howard is an active volunteer at Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park. The 17-year-old is eager to take on tasks and learn the ropes, and she asks for help when needed.

She started volunteering at the park during summer 2020. She completed all the necessary trainings, read all the guidelines and help implement safety regulations as they changed throughout the summer. Sophia has provided a connection to other local teenagers and has been able to take what she has learned at the park and share it with her friends and family.

Sophia has provided the park with an extra set of hands. Her ability to work independently is invaluable. She is a hard worker, a quick learner, and truly understands the need to keep the park safe and available for all to use. Without her volunteering efforts, particularly the shifts she works on Friday mornings, the park would not run as smoothly as it does during the weekend. She takes pride in preparing the bathhouses, parking lots and picnic areas for the busy weekends.
