Staff Spotlight, Nate Barron

Nate Barron

Park Ranger Nate Barron was born and raised on a small family farm in western New York. He developed a love for the outdoors at a young age, often racing the setting sun home after a day of adventure.  Now a dedicated Park Ranger, he gets to watch the sunrise as he begins each workday.

Nate and his family have called Englewood, Florida home since 2014.  One of their first dates was watching the sunset at Stump Pass Beach State Park, a natural gem with over a mile of coastline.  Today, he helps manage this special place, where every day brings a new adventure.  As he puts it, being a Park Ranger is like being Dr. Seuss's "The Lorax" - he speaks for the trees, flowers, and animals. His favorite part of the job is the ever-changing diversity of the park.  Whether it's watching eagles teach their young, seeing manatees or helping with hurricane recovery efforts, no two days are the same. Nate is particularly passionate about the park's wildlife, and his favorite activities include turtle patrol and monitoring nesting birds.

Beyond his daily duties, Nate is dedicated to the long-term restoration of the park, especially the mangrove and seagrass ecosystems.  He believes that parks, both national and state, are a uniquely American privilege and encourages everyone to get out and experience them.  His goal is to see Stump Pass Beach State Park fully restored and enjoyed by both guests and Rangers for years to come.
