Matthew Lee, Park Ranger

Matthew Lee is one of our dedicated Park Rangers who found his paradise in Boca Grande! A Colorado native for 48 years, Matthew happily relocated to Florida in 2023, drawn by his lifelong love for the ocean and the outdoors. He grew up camping, fishing, hiking and snowboarding, passions that perfectly aligns with his role.

"When looking for employment, I decided what better place to work than paradise," Matthew shares, reflecting his deep connection to the serenity of nature and wildlife.

As a Park Ranger, Matthew is key to maintaining our beautiful park. You'll find him on daily patrols, assisting visitors, and educating them on Gasparilla Island State Park and Boca Grande's history. From April to October, he's actively involved in turtle patrol, a hands-on effort in wildlife conservation that he deeply enjoys.

Matthew takes immense pride in "the difference we make daily in providing a clean, well-maintained and safe environment for our visitors." He loves the pristine water, abundant wildlife and unique island vegetation, including the Banyan trees, that make the island so special.

Looking ahead, Matthew aims to become a Lead Resident Park Ranger or Park Services Specialist, further contributing to park services and visitor education.

Outside of work, Matthew is a devoted husband and father of three and an avid inshore and offshore fisherman who also enjoys playing the guitar.

We're incredibly fortunate to have Park Ranger Matthew Lee on our team, dedicated to preserving Gasparilla Island State Park's natural beauty.
