Staff Spotlight, Dean Cox

Park Ranger Dean Cox grew up in Florida and has always been drawn to the outdoors. Dean grew up as a Boy Scout, continued on as an Eagle Scout and later spent over 20 years in the military. His favorite part of the outdoors is the peace and solitude you can find when exploring Florida’s diverse ecosystems. You can find Dean fishing, hiking and canoeing on his off time but when he is in the Park, he is the go to source for information on History.

Dean has over 20 years of experience as a Park Ranger and history is one of his favorite subjects. He provides excellent programs for the public, covering the history of the park and the surrounding area. His knowledge of history is essential to the team, but he is also a great source of experience in many other areas of the park as well. Dean is an expert when it comes to chain sawing and maintaining the park grounds. He is also a great mentor when training to monitor endangered species like sea turtles.

Anastasia State Park is home to incredible natural communities and is also rich in cultural history. With all of these valuable resources available, it is an excellent place for Dean to showcase his knowledge and skills. Whether it is interacting with guests or training new employees and volunteers, Dean is a wonderful asset to the Anastasia State Park Team.
