Biologist Cole Lutrell is a fierce advocate for habitat restoration of the beautiful Fakahatchee Strand. In July, Lutrell earned his Burn Boss Certification to continue the fight for ecologically-based resource management principles.
“My goal as burn boss is to mimic natural processes where possible and create habitat heterogeneity using pyric diversity. We mostly burn to benefit the ecosystem, but the ecological impacts of the way we burn and how we use fire sometimes gets lost.
