Paddling at Gamble Rogers

Two yellow kayaks with fishing gear at Gamble Rogers

One of the best ways to experience the quieter side of the park is to canoe or kayak in the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW).  The open water of the ICW is where you could see dolphins or manatees along with larger boats traveling up and down the river.  A short paddle across the open water will bring you to a network of mangrove islands where you can see mullet jumping and herons fishing.  This is a more peaceful experience since the larger boats are unable to navigate this area due to the shallow water.

Rentals are available at the park or visitors are always welcomed to bring their own.

  • Single kayak $15
  • Tandem kayak/canoe $25
  • Each additional hour $10

This is a wonderful place for bird watching, wildlife photography or just plain relaxing.

If you’re a little more adventurous, bring your fishing rod and try to reel in a trophy redfish or seatrout.  All fishing within the park must conform to regulations concerning size, number, method of capture and season.

fishing license may be required.  More information is available at the Florida Wildlife Commission’s Fishing in Florida.
