Manager's Message San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park

Robert Steele, Park Manager

Hello and welcome to San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park. Now is a great time to visit this beautiful little park located where the Wakulla and St. Marks Rivers come together in the small town of St. Marks. The park preserves the architectural remains and tells the story of soldiers and citizens that protected Florida since the Spanish Period through the Civil War. This tiny piece of land has been the strategic focal point for over 500 years and still seems to hold some of the frontier characteristics even today.

We have a great museum to help tell the story of the property and the interesting people who passed this way over the years. Self-guided tours point out the highlights of the property and ranger guided tours can be scheduled in advance.

Remember that you can enjoy a picnic and fishing along with the history of the park. Enjoy a bike ride or hike down the Tallahassee-St. Marks Railroad Historic State Park and travel off the trail a few more blocks and enjoy this historic park and museum as well.
