Landscape architects design these gardens for food or pleasure, to highlight the natural beauty of the land and the plants. Most gardens feature an element of education and scientific study. Millions of people visit public and private gardens every year.

The U.S. Postal Service has created the American Gardens postage stamp series to recognize 10 of America’s best gardens.
