Take a Walk on the Wild Side

Looking to get away from the city and experience nature at its best? Wekiwa Springs has a series of trails that do just that. Whether it is a quick break from the routine or a day of exploration, we offer trails ranging in length from 8/10 mile (1.3 km) to 13.5 miles (21.7 km) to accommodate you.

Our wet-to-dry trail starting at the spring is the shortest of the Wekiwa trails. Traveling gently upwards from the spring by boardwalk, you walk from the wet hammock adjacent to the spring and climb to the dry upland with the last few hundred feet being on grade. En route you can look for the gentle changes in the ground plants and ferns as the environment dries out. Once at the top, you can turn left to return to the spring area or go right and extend your adventure.

Our Orange trail offers 5.3 mi (8.5 km) and the White trail 13.5 mi (21.7 km) for you to explore. They provide an opportunity to see varying plant communities ranging from the signature community at Wekiwa Springs – sandhill - to river swamp, hardwood hammock, mesic flatwoods and others.

While enjoying the trails, you might encounter white-tailed deer, gopher tortoise, turkeys and many other bird species. Some of the rarer species are bobcats and the Florida black bear. 

Some of our trails are designated as multi-use, so be prepared to encounter the occasional bicyclist or horseback rider. A trail map and information on bear safety can be obtained at the ranger station.

We recommend you bring:

  • Plenty of water, sunscreen, insect repellent, and snacks.
  • Map, compass and cellphone.
