Mary Ann Clark

Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park

Now that Mary Ann Clark has retired, she has the opportunity to give back to the community of Key Largo. Volunteering at Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park provides her with many rewarding activities as well as the opportunity to learn new skills.

Working in the park’s native plant nursery, she enjoys weeding, pruning, potting plants and identifying invasive as well as native plants - with the occasional swat of a mosquito. Mary Ann creates and supervises activities for the Children's Corner at the annual Native Plant Day Event. A catch-and-release fishing game, with Mary Ann’s painted and crafted magnetic wooden fish, is a favorite activity. Documenting the native endangered Schaus’ swallowtail butterfly and other butterflies found in the park is one of her favorite pastimes.

Mary Ann suggests that if you have retired and would like to give back to your community, that you should volunteer at a Florida State Park. She thinks you may be surprised at how much fun you’ll have. Mary Ann does!
