Cheryl Bucholtz

Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park

Cheryl Bucholtz is a Florida native. A love of the outdoors is something that has always come naturally to her. So much so she has made a career of it and is now a retired Florida State Park ranger. She's worked at Blue Spring State Park and Hontoon Island State Park. Now she enjoys spending her time continuing the work by serving as a volunteer.

She now volunteers at Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park, working in the office and in the field. She is grateful that her position there affords her the opportunity to observe and identify different plant and animal species. Her love for the great outdoors and passion for camping have provided her with many opportunities to enable others to experience and enjoy the true nature of this planet we all share.

You can often catch Cheryl enjoying the campground, sitting by a campfire, stargazing or hiking along one of the many trails at Kissimmee Prairie, often taking pictures and identifying plants and animals along the way. Cheryl enjoys returning to this park because of how it truly encompasses the real Florida through its beauty and tranquility.

Cheryl’s favorite part of her role at Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park is that she has the opportunity to meet people from all over the world. She was drawn to work at this park because she visited in 2015 and always wanted to come back. She especially loves volunteering in the summer because the water levels start rising throughout the park and she enjoys watching the gators on the move.

Cheryl’s experience as a ranger has been a vital part of summer operations at Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park.
