Staff Spotlight, Marcia Brock
Administrative Assistant, Marcia Brock
Ochlockonee River State Park and Bald Point State Park
Marcia is a Florida native who has lived in the Sopchoppy area since 1960. Being outdoors has always been important in Marcia's life. As a child in rural Florida, she rode horses and bikes and played outside until the street lights came on every day. Marcia grew up swimming at Wakulla Springs long before it was a state park.
She's a passionate gardener and developed a love for growing things from her father who always planted a large garden to provide food for her family. When she had a family of her own, it was vital to Marcia that they experience some of the same things she did. She spent many days with her three sons fishing and swimming and simply exploring the great outdoors.
After spending years working in private firms and state agencies in Tallahassee, Marcia welcomed the idea of getting back to the outdoors working for the Florida Park Service. Marcia has been working at Ochlockonee River and Bald Point State Parks for seven years as the administrative assistant. Most of her time is spent in the ranger station, but she loves being able to watch nature from her window. One of Marcia's favorite parts of the job is being able to watch the deer with their newborn fawns feed on acorns outside the window, or the white squirrels or piebald deer that the park is famous for. Marcia also enjoys the people she gets to meet along the way. Whether over the phone or in person, she is proud to be the smiling face that welcomes visitors to the park.
Marcia hopes to spend the rest of her career at Ochlockonee River. Once she retires, her goal is to be a full time RV traveler and explore the country on the back roads as a park volunteer.
