Park Services Specialist, Keith Aliengena
Growing up, Keith Aliengena never imagined he would be a Park Ranger. After years of working in the hospitality industry in New England, Keith moved to Florida and started at Silver Springs in 2003. He has worked at the park ever since and has contributed immensely to its expansion and growth.
Keith takes great care of visitors and their needs, whether they are staying overnight in the cabins and campgrounds or if they are just visiting for the day. However, his passion is restoring and preserving the natural resources.
As the Park Services Specialist in charge of land management, Keith spends a lot of time outdoors in the uplands and wetlands. Whether he is controlling invasive exotic plants and animals, maintaining fire breaks or conducting prescribed burns, Keith is proud to manage the natural resources.
Although most park visitors know about the springs and the river, some do not realize the park has over 1,000 acres of uplands. Keith encourages them to visit the Sandhill Trail and Swamp Trail so they can enjoy wildlife such as Sherman’s fox squirrel and wild turkey. Their populations have grown since Keith began his service, due to increased use of prescribed fire.
