Welcome to Perdido Key State Park

White sand beaches and rolling dunes covered with sea oats make this park a favorite destination for swimmers and sunbathers.


Surf fishing is a popular activity for anglers of all skill levels. Boardwalks from the parking lot allow visitors to access the beach without causing damage to the fragile dunes and beach vegetation.

Covered picnic tables overlooking the beach provide a great place for family outings. 

The park is home to several threatened and endangered species such as the Perdido Key beach mouse, nesting shorebirds and nesting sea turtles.

Sea turtles at Perdido Key

Loggerhead sea turtles begin showing up at Perdido Key in late March or early May on into August where the females lay their eggs in nests along the beach. Green turtles, the Kemp’s ridley and the hawksbill have also been recorded laying nests.

Perdido Key Beach Mouse

The role of the Perdido Key beach mouse is often overlooked when people think of the habitat. One critical behavior the mice have is to forage for seeds and then store them underground. Most importantly for the coastal dune ecosystem are the sea oat seeds.

T.H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park

Stretching 20 miles into the blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico, St. Joseph Peninsula is a true wildlife haven. Its powdery beaches and bayside salt marshes are nesting grounds for sea turtles, shore birds and the endangered St. Andrews beach mouse.
