Experiences
There is approximately 6 miles of 12-foot-wide paved multi-use trail from Felburn Park westward to the Gulf of America and east of Felburn Park for bicycling, walking or inline skating.
- Helmets are recommended for all cyclists on our trails. Florida law requires helmets for cyclists age 16 and under.
The Felburn Park is a designated segment of the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail in Citrus County.
Species that may be seen seasonally include little blue heron, bald eagle, and various wading birds and waterfowl along the barge canal shoreline and Phil’s Lake.
Saltwater fishing is available from the shoreline of the Cross Florida Barge Canal, and freshwater species can be caught in the 40-acre Phil’s Lake.
- All fishing within the park must conform to regulations concerning size, number, method of capture and season.
- A fishing license may be required. More information is available at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission’s Fishing in Florida.
Geocaching is an outdoor game using hand-held global positioning systems (GPS) devices. It's effectively an inexpensive, interactive, high-tech treasure hunt that's a great way to learn geography. Participants use location coordinates to find caches. Some caches are easy to find; others are more difficult.
The biggest reward is the thrill of the search and the discovery of a place where you have never been. Geocaching should have minimal impact to the environment and conscientious land-use ethics should be followed.
- Numerous geocaches have been placed all along the Cross Florida Greenway. Locations are available via the various geocaching websites available online.
There is a one mile of 12-foot-wide paved multi-use trail running east from Felburn Park and five miles west to the Gulf of America for hiking.
There also are 2.6 miles of natural surface trails throughout Felburn Park, including the loop trail around Phil’s Lake that provides diverse vistas and observation points.
