Escape to the shade of the tropical hardwood forest and unwind in the serene beauty of the Florida Keys! Whether you're a local or a visitor, Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park is a peaceful sanctuary where you can connect with nature and enjoy some well-deserved tranquility.

Take a leisurely stroll on the self-guided nature walk or hop on your bike to explore the trail. For those feeling adventurous, the loop trail offers an additional 1 to 2 miles of exploration. As you wander, you’ll likely spot some of the 84 protected species of plants and wildlife that call this unique ecosystem home.

Be sure to visit the native plant butterfly garden at the circle, where you can relax at a picnic table (just remember to pack out your trash to help keep this place pristine).

Some areas of the trail are subject to tidal saltwater flow, so waterproof boots may come in handy. For your safety and to preserve the hammock, please stick to the designated trails. If you’re seeking a bit more adventure, the backcountry trails in the northern section of the park offer an extra 7 miles of natural beauty, just a short drive from the main entrance.

We’re excited to be working on new trails and signage to enhance your visit, so thank you for your patience as we make these improvements. And while you’re out exploring, be sure to come prepared mosquitoes are part of the wild, so insect repellent and long sleeves and pants are recommended.

Entering the park is easy: just stop by the Iron Ranger at the main entrance to pay your $2.50 fee (cash only, or free with a Florida Park Service Annual Pass). And if you’re passionate about the park, consider joining the Friends of John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park and Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park. Your support can make a real difference! Learn more and become a member by visiting Pennekamp Park Friends.

Interested in getting more hands-on? There are volunteer opportunities available. Reach out for more details.

Whether you have an hour or the whole day, I think you’ll love the peaceful escape and unique experience that this beautiful park has to offer.
