Bill Gruber, Park Manager

We invite you to come enjoy a beautiful slice of old-time Florida and learn about Dade's Battle of 1835, a pivotal event that changed the course of history in this state and the nation.

A good place to start is our visitor center, open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day of the year, where historical exhibits and an award-winning 12-minute video provide insight into this rich but little known part of our heritage.

Stroll the historic battlefield, which features a replica of the log breastworks the soldiers constructed during a lull in the battle. It was here they took refuge and fought their last fight before being overwhelmed and defeated by a superior force of Seminole warriors. Here the Seminoles began their long, armed resistance to removal to present-day Oklahoma. Interpretive signs along the trail tell the story of the battle.

Several open-air pavilions await you, as do scattered tables and grills throughout the picnic area.

The Dade Lodge, which seats 98, is a popular facility often rented for family reunions, birthday parties, showers and life's other milestones.

A hike along the nature trail will take you past evidence of recent prescribed burning and reveal sections of pine flatwoods that look much as they did in 1835.

The annual reenactment of Dade's Battle, held the first full weekend in January every year, is our signature event. We also offer a wide range of other events and programs for adults and children throughout the year. Check the calendar of events on this website to see what's coming up next.

We look forward to seeing you around the park!
