One of the best times to visit Paynes Creek Historic State Park is winter. The air is drier, the river is usually a great level for paddling, the trails are dry and there are awesome opportunities for great photos! If you are looking for a great daytime getaway, the trip here is worth it. We have trails that lead you along the Peace River and Paynes Creek, trails that lead you to higher, pine flatwoods and trails that lead you through beautiful canopies of green.

The river is a popular place to fish and paddle and the picnic area offers picnic tables, pavilions for rent and a volleyball net.

For the history enthusiasts, there is a wonderful visitor center where you can take a step into the past and explore the area's rich Seminole history. A path from the visitor center leads you to the site where Fort Chokonikla once stood, housing US Army soldiers during the mid 1800's.

There is something for everyone here at Paynes Creek, and we hope to see you soon!
