Description

Join Ranger Laura McMullen on the annual Trek to the Historic Dam. This hike is an "off the beaten path" walk which focuses on the hammock, pineland and swamp communities and is approximately 1.5 miles. Visitors will learn about the history of the park and its unique hydrology. Explore forested wetlands and view New Deal Era structures along the way to the historic dam at Little Charley Bowlegs Creek. As parking is limited, visitors are requested to park in the Cypress Swamp Trail parking area on the Loop Road and walk back over to the Wildlife kiosk.

Visitors are advised to dress for the weather and wear hiking shoes, long pants and protective clothing. No flipflops or sandals allowed. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Pets are not permitted. Bring water, sunscreen, insect repellent, snacks, binoculars, walking sticks and bird guides. There are no restroom facilities near the trails, so visitors are advised to use the restroom in the picnic area prior to the hikes.

Registration is requested as space is limited. RSVP to laura.mcmullen@floridadep.gov. Visitors may also call the Ranger Station at 863-386-6094 to sign up. The park is located at 5931 Hammock Road in Sebring, FL 33872.
