Friends of Washington Oaks Gardens State Park
First Day Hike

The event is a "First Day Hike". The hike will be guided by park Rangers. It will take place on our Coastal Hammock Trail and on our beach. The length of the hike is 1.25 miles and it will take approximately 1 hour to complete.

Rangers will talk about the following:
- Native and invasive animals and plants found within the park
- Military history of the park
- General history of the park's inlet

Bluegrass Music With Gypsy Strings Revival

Join us for an afternoon of bluegrass music in the Park's beautiful amphitheater. Local band, The Gypsy Strings Revival, will be performing.

First Day Hike
Thursday, January 1, 2026 9:30 am

Join Park Rangers Nick Francis and Rachael Weaver on a two-part guided morning hike starting at the Visitors Center overflow parking lot pavilion. We will walk down our tram trail to the West Entrance and into the park through our Wildlife Walk. Both rangers will talk about our unique park from its different land communities, how we manage our park with prescribed burning, and how we are a part of the Wildlife Corridor. Then shifting to the Wildlife Walk learning about all our resident animal ambassadors, Manatee education on conservation, and viewing our famous Underwater Observatory that floats right above our beautiful spring that flows throughout the park. Please be prepared to walk about 2 miles in good walking shoes. Bring a refillable water bottle, a camera, and a sense of adventure, hope to see you there!

Friends Of The Farm Annual Meeting With Poet Lola Haskins

Annual Meeting with special guest Poet Lola Haskins.  Learn about all the Friends have completed through the past year, hear exciting plans for the future and enjoy a very special presentation - "Marjorie and Me: Some Poems and a Tribute."  

Long Key State Park First Day Hike

Long Key State Park will be hosting Ranger led first day hikes on the 1.1 mile Golden Orb Nature Trail at 9:00am and 12:00pm. Guests will explore the natural communities of the state park and will discuss the flora and fauna of the ecosystems encountered along the trail. Participants are encouraged to bring a hat, sunscreen, bug spray, a reusable water bottle, and shoes that can get wet.

Gamble Jam

Join us for the Gamble Jam—a laid-back, toe-tappin' tribute to the legendary Florida folk singer and storyteller, James Gamble Rogers IV! Musicians of all skill levels are welcome to bring their acoustic instruments and join the jam. Whether you're strumming, picking, singing, or just soaking in the sounds, come be part of the magic at the Gamble Jam pavilion!

Gardens And Groves - First Day Hike

Join us on a Gardens and Groves themed First Day Hike as we start celebrating the year of our country's 250th birthday! Participants will learn more about Florida's role in World War 2 as Marjorie recorded it. Please wear footwear appropriate for hiking and bring your own drinking water and bug spray. We will start at the Historic Barn located within Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings' historic farmyard.

Suwannee River First Day Hike

Join thousands of others around the country for this unique and invigorating tradition! Rangers at Suwannee River State Park will be meeting to hike some of the trails in our park while we reflect on the past and look to the hopeful joy of a new year.
There will be two hike start times: 8:30am for the Sandhill Trail and 11:30am for a portion of the Suwannee River Trail. You can learn about the animals and plants that thrive in the different habitats and hear stories of 1700s settlers who moved to the area. It will be a great time to chat with rangers, connect with nature, and inspire yourself for the upcoming year. We hope to see you there!
