Experiences
Lake Jackson Mounds offers a 0.75-mile interpretive trail that meanders past an early 1800s grist mill at Butler Mill Creek. The mill belonged to Colonial Robert Butler who was the first land Surveyor General of Florida.
Lake Jackson also has a 2.2-mile nature trail where you can enjoy a multitude of flora and fauna. The interpretive trail is a little more challenging due to the rougher terrain and occasional slopes. The nature trail is predominantly grasslands mixed throughout with more stable grade and slope.
Lake Jackson offers a one-hour ranger-guided interpretive tour with two weeks' notice. We can accommodate groups up to 50 people. If your group contains more than 50, or you cannot give us a two-week notice, please call the office at 850-487-7989. We make every reasonable effort to accommodate all tour groups when the situation allows.

There is evidence that the Lake Jackson Indians participated in a Southeastern socio-religious complex known to archaeologists as the Southeastern Ceremonial Complex, which flourished around A.D. 1200.
The area was probably the political and religious center for Native Americans of this area during the period 1200 A.D. to 1500 A.D.
