Fernandina Plaza Historic State Park is the site of the historic plaza grounds that were once part of the Spanish Fort San Carlos. Fort San Carlos was a wood and earth fort built in 1816 that offered a central parade ground or plaza that served as a common place for residents of the settlement.
Several historic markers and interpretive panels at the plaza explain significant historic events that took place on the site.
