Park Alert, Little Talbot

Water Access Changes for Public Safety

In order to enhance public safety at our park, use areas at the south end of Little Talbot Island are now restricted to dry shoreline access. Strong currents occur at the south tip of the island where the river meets the ocean making water entry dangerous. While parking areas will remain open at this time, No Water Entry and No swimming will be allowed from the South End Parking Lots. Visitors can still access the beach using boardwalk #4 for fishing, walking and biking.

Little Talbot has over five miles of shoreline and these restrictions affect limited areas on the tips of the island where mixing currents are strongest. No water entry signs on the beach will demarcate unsafe areas south of boardwalk 3. We encourage visitors to heed park signage, respect the powerful natural forces of the ocean and ask park staff if they are unsure about an area’s designation.

Water entry will continue to be allowed from North Beach Parking Lots using boardwalks 1, 2 and 3. Visitors wishing to use the shoreline for swimming purposes will be sent here.

Little Talbot has no lifeguards and water entry is at your own risk. Thank you for your support and cooperation as we work to ensure the protection of the resource and our visitors. Please direct any questions to the ranger station, 904-251-2320.
