Volunteer Spotlight, Wesley Styles

Volunteers take a quick breather to smile while working together at Three Rivers State Park.

Volunteer Wesley Styles

2021 Adult Volunteer of the Year Award for Maintenance

Wes Styles has amassed over 6,000 volunteer hours in Florida State Parks. He is a jack-of-all-trades with many skills.

Since 2017, Three Rivers State Park has become his home away from home. Wes spends his volunteer hours at the park doing everything from carpentry or electrical projects to repairing small engines or operating heavy machinery.

When Hurricane Michael ravaged the area in 2018, Wes was right there to help. He dry-camped behind the ranger station, working 10-hour days for more than a week. He rebuilt six bridges that cross creeks, ridges and rivers on the extensive trail system in the park. He was and still is instrumental in cleaning and reopening the trails.

Wes has never met a project he cannot accomplish. Most recently, he played a significant role in building a new accessible fish cleaning station that offers twice as much surface area and new lighting.

The contributions of Wes to Three Rivers are immense and ever-growing. He is dependable and passionate and always has a cheery disposition. The park service is proud to count Wes a part of the group of our most dedicated volunteers.

Congratulations to Wesley on his award. His volunteer efforts are appreciated.
