Shirley Johnson is a friendly face at the front of our visitor center. She supports us by welcoming visitors, old and new, in person and on the phone. In the busy season, Shirley answer 60 to 100 calls per day. In between calls she keeps the visitor center squeaky clean and learns something new about the park everyday. Shirley has helped hundreds of visitors from around the world since February 2023. Her kind and patient nature has made a lasting impact on people visiting for the first time.
Beyond her value to the visitors, Shirley is sunshine behind the desk. During the ranger's lunch breaks or as they pass through, you can often hear giggles and joyful conversations as they interact with her. Shirley insists on bringing the rangers small treats or sharing food and she always knows how to lift a ranger up when they’re feeling down. In little time she has become park family.
