Dave and Lorrie Moore

Dave and Lorrie Moore began full-time RVing after retirement to pursue their dreams of seeing the country’s most extraordinary natural areas. After spending time on the road, they decided they wanted to contribute something to the amazing public lands they were enjoying.

Dave arrived at Fakahatchee Strand Preserve with more than 40 years of professional excavator experience and immediately went to work improving Jane’s Scenic Drive to make it safer and more enjoyable for park visitors. Many visitors and volunteers who have been regulars at the park for decades have commented that the road has never looked better.

Lorrie gave a much needed refresh to the park garden, removing weeds and planting native species to be enjoyed by arriving guests. She continues to maintain the garden, while also assisting with the road maintenance by driving the dump truck to move fill material. Volunteering is not new to Lorrie — during her career in dentistry, she volunteered for free clinics and nonprofits that offered free dental care to those in need.

This habit of giving back runs deep in both Dave and Lorrie. They are dedicated, adaptable and enthusiastic volunteers who take great pride in a job well done.

Their favorite things about the park are the serene atmosphere and the relationships they have formed with park staff. When asked why volunteering at Fakahatchee Strand Preserve has been rewarding, Lorrie says that they are proud to be able to be a part of what it takes to keep Florida’s incredible natural resources accessible for the public to enjoy.

As she puts it, “With great blessings comes great responsibility.”
