VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT, Bill Potter

Bill Potter

Bill Potter

Bill’s dedication and love for his park are unmatched.

Bill Potter has been a volunteer at the park for over five years now and has donated over 900 volunteer hours. Bill served on the board of the Friends of Topsail for a large portion of that time, serving as the President for a number of years.

Bill has taken on the bulk of responsibility for many major events hosted by the Friends and actively seeks and applies for grant opportunities to increase the level of visitor service and community outreach at Topsail Hill Preserve State Park. The events that the Friends have hosted with Bill's motivation and insight have raised tens of thousands of dollars for the park over the last few years. These funds have been used to purchase equipment such a beach capable 4x4 utility vehicle, golf cart batteries, new axles for the tram and many more allowing park staff to do their jobs more efficiently and effectively.

Bill has been an integral member of the Friends of Topsail and is often a driving force behind the planning and execution of major events at Topsail such as 'Tapas & Tunes' and ‘Santa's Camp Christmas’. Bill’s dedication truly knows no bounds. At 'Camp Christmas' in 2022, he even went so far as to spend the night camping in the tent containing the silent auction items between the two nights of the event just to ensure there would be no issue and so that event staff would be able to have an easier time setting up between the two nights.

Bill’s dedication and love for his park are unmatched, and this is made clear in everything he does.  Team Topsail is lucky to have him, and we are extremely grateful for everything he helped accomplish while serving as President of the Friends of Topsail Hill Preserve State Park.
