Shoreline Preservation at Yellow River

water, lake

Yellow River Marsh Preserve State Park contains 800 feet of shoreline along the East Bay.

Due to the wave action created by storms and boats, environmentalists noticed that the shoreline was quickly eroding.

Help for the shoreline came with the passing of the 1972 Coastal Area Management Act, which established the National Coastal Zone Management Program (CZMP). The key goals of the CZMP are to protect and preserve natural resources, manage development in high hazard areas, and where possible, to restore or enhance the resources of the nation’s coastal zone. It gives development priority for coastal-dependent uses, provision of public access for recreation, and coordination of state and federal actions.

Yellow River Shoreline

Efforts to stabilize the Yellow River Marsh Preserve State Park shoreline have already led to improvement, and it continues to grow and further stabilize.

Once stabilized this will give us the opportunity to have future trails along the coastal shore and more recreational activities for all to enjoy.
