Located in the heart of Florida’s capital city, Lake Jackson Mounds Archaeological State Park provides an escape to nature on the edge of bustling city life. The park features hiking trails, a picnic shelter with restroom facilities, and interpretive exhibits detailing the park’s rich cultural significance. An abundance of wildlife can also be found here including deer, turtles and birds of prey.
The park preserves a site of the Southeastern Ceremonial Complex, a collection of archaeologically significant cultural mounds and other sites of the Mississippian Period.
Enjoy a quiet walk so as not to spook the wildlife, and you’re sure to spot something new every time. If you’re looking to learn about Florida’s Native Peoples, Lake Jackson Mounds Archaeological State Park has a story to tell!
