History of the Constitution Convention Museum State Park

St. Joseph artifacts

The museum houses many early 19th century artifacts some of which were used in the old city of St. Joseph. Some early Spanish and Native American items are on display as well.

The grave stone of Captain George Kupfer, who was the first yellow fever victim buried in St. Joseph Cemetery, can also be seen here.

A ¾ scale model of the Baldwin steam locomotive that operated in the city, is displayed; another Florida’s first.

All the collections within the museum lead visitors on Florida’s path to statehood. One of the fun parts of your visit will be the animatronics exhibit depicting the convention delegation in action. Short biographies of each of the 56 delegates who worked to bring the Florida constitution fruition are available to read. The 1838 constitution would become the State of Florida’s organic law until it’s succession from the United States in 1861.
