Volunteer Spotlight, Marney Cossitt
Marney Cossitt
Deer Lake State Park
Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, Marney Cossitt moved to Florida for the warm weather. As a child, Marney has fond memories of camping in the desert and mountains of Arizona. The forests and oceans of Florida have become some of Marney’s favorite things about the state. He'd been a visitor to Grayton Beach State Park several times before, camping and enjoying the beach. He ultimately decided that volunteering would be the best way to help others enjoy the state parks as much as he does.
Most often you can find Marney greeting visitors as they enter Grayton Beach. He welcomes them with a smile and is always happy to answer any questions that they might have. When he’s not greeting visitors, you can find him helping maintain the park facilities at both Grayton Beach and Deer Lake State Park. It doesn’t matter what time of the year it is - because Marney thinks any time is a great time - you’ll always find him out and about in the parks. On his off days, Marney enjoys team cook-outs and trail cleanups because he gets to spend time with his fellow park volunteers.
Marney says that volunteering is a wonderful way to spend his retirement. It keeps him active and surrounded by great people. He is inspired by the visitors to help make the park the best it can be and believes that the beauty of the park is something that anyone can fall in love with.
