Bicycling
Bicycling

Bicycling is allowed on the park's multi-use trails, the scenic drive and the park drive.

  • Bicycles are available for rent at the ranger station for $20 a day. 
  • Helmets are highly recommended for all cyclists and Florida law requires helmets for cyclists age 16 and under.
Birding
Birding

Birding is a popular activity at Ochlockonee River State Park. We are one of only a few parks that is home to a resident population of red cockaded woodpeckers.

Visitors may also see the Bachman’s sparrow and many other birds during their visit. The river is home to many osprey and eagles, and many species of hawks are seen during the fall migration.

Boating
Boating

Boating is a popular activity at the park especially in the summertime. The Ochlockonee River is a great place to bring the family for an afternoon of tubing or skiing or just to ride the river and take in the natural beauty of this undeveloped area.

Camping
Camping

The park offers a 30-site campground with three accessible sites. 

All 30 sites have 50 amp service, water hookups, fire ring, picnic table and clothesline. A dump station is provided for your convenience. The comfort station located within the campground provides restrooms and hot showers, an outside sink for washing dishes, and water fountains.

Camping, Primitive Group
Camping, Primitive Group

A primitive group campground is provided on the banks of the Dead River off the scenic drive. This site is a great spot for Scout groups and other organized youth groups.

  • Showers and potable water are available on the site as well as a large fire ring and bench seating.
  • A large table is available. 
  • Reserve the site by calling the ranger station at 850-962-2771.
Fishing
Fishing

The brackish waters of the park provide excellent fresh and saltwater fishing. There is a floating dock on the Dead River that can be used for fishing, and the Ochlockonee River shoreline is accessible from the main picnic area.

  • All fishing within the park must conform to regulations concerning size, number, method of capture and season. A fishing license may be required. More information is available at the Florida Wildlife Commission’s Fishing in Florida.

Explore the park in a new and challenging way. Experienced geocachers have requested permission to hide caches containing trinkets, treasures or information in various places around the park. Please check the Geocaching website for the most up-to-date information and clues to locate these caches.

The park has two designated hiking trails, Ochlockonee River Nature Trail and Pine Flatwoods Nature Trail.

Paddling
Paddling

The park provides access to some of the best canoe and kayaking opportunities in the area. There are miles and miles of tidal creeks and rivers to explore in this area of Florida.

  • Maps are provided at the ranger station to help you decide which direction to head first.
  • There is an accessible kayak launch available at the boat ramp.

The park has four pavilions available for rent to accommodate family reunions and other large gatherings. There are restrooms conveniently located near all pavilions. There is also a playground swimming area and river access in the area of all the park pavilions.

  • All pavilions have grills but only two have power and lights. 
  • The south pavilion is screened-in. 
  • Call the ranger station to book a pavilion for your next family reunion.

The park is located in an area free of light pollution, making it a great place to stargaze.

A swimming area is located on the Dead River in the day-use area of the park.

Weddings

The park offers several great locations for a scenic outdoor wedding. Great views of the river and large picnic pavilions for receptions are available.

  • Call the ranger station to book your wedding weekend.
Wildlife Viewing
Wildlife Viewing

Wildlife viewing is one the park's greatest draws. Visitors commonly see a wide range of upland wildlife and birds. The park has an accessible scenic drive that loops through picturesque North Florida flatwoods.

Ochlockonee River State Park is committed to providing a variety of accessible amenities to all visitors. These amenities include:

  • Accessible fishing/observation dock.
  • Accessible picnic pavilion.
  • Accessible campsites.
  • Accessible boat ramp and dock.
  • Accessible kayak/canoe launch.
  • Beach wheelchair. 
  • Outdoor shower and water fountain.

The accessible boat ramp provides easy access to the Ochlockonee River, Dead River, Sopchoppy River and countless tidal creeks.

  • There are restrooms and a fish cleaning station at the boat ramp parking area.

A campfire circle is located in the campground behind site No. 13. This area is where park staff conduct a multitude of interpretive programs throughout the year. Check with the staff at the ranger station upon arrival for programs that might be going on during your visit.

Four picnic pavilions are located in the main day-use area of the park. Two of these pavilions are accessible via paved sidewalks from the parking area. 

  • Picnic pavilions are available on a first-come, first-served basis, or can be reserved by calling the ranger station.

The park is very wheelchair accessible. Sidewalks lead from the parking lot in the day-use area to two different picnic pavilions, the swimming beach, playground, river shoreline and an accessible outdoor shower and drinking fountain.
